Scar Gun Caliber - FN SCAR 16S Carbine Earns Its High Price Tag: My AR is one of my favorite rifles in my collection, so I reserved judgment on the FN Scar 16S until I had a chance to shoot it. It's definitely more expensive, but I get the reason why US military special forces like to use it.
For starters, some of the best things about the FN SCAR 16S are the big features. The fire selector and magazine release are large enough that I can easily use them with gloves on, and I strongly recommend wearing them because the spot burns very quickly.

The good news there is that, even after 100 rounds of testing, I didn't have a single misfire, jam, or issue, no matter how hot the magazine feed was. I also like that the trigger guard is big enough to accommodate gloves, because they knew how hot it would be when they designed it.

All of these features made for worry, but they didn't get in my way when I was shooting. I will say that the charging handle can pinch your fingers with the optics if you're not careful, but it wasn't the first time it's been a problem for me.
For test shooting, I like it. I had an internal range of 2" at 100 yards and it didn't change much at 300 or even 400 yards, although I needed to use an optic for those targets. That's when I became aware of the gap in the charging handle.
One thing that stood out was how easy it was to remove and clean the stain, as I did it in minutes. I was able to adjust the folded stock and cheek rest to be completely comfortable in my shooting position and they held that adjustment the entire time.
The .223 round had no recoil that I noticed, thanks mostly to Scar's muzzle brake. Between that and the rifle being just over 7 pounds, it was easy to maneuver with. Picatinny 4 rails allow me to have a holographic sight and grip with no issues.

I also like the gas piston firing system because it reduces gas release, but it also reduces carbon build up so I don't have to clean it as much. It works with my AR magazines, but avoid using PMags Gen II because they break your spots.
The only thing I don't like about the SCAR is the price, as $3,300 is quite high. You can find rifles in the same vein for less, but they won't have the same quality or durability that this rifle brings to the table. FN Scarr: Yes, they are worth the money…
After 100 rounds on the range, it's no surprise that members of the military prefer the FN Scar 16S tactical carbine. I personally like it a lot more than my AR, from the handling to the accuracy and recoil management, so if you have the money, I can't recommend the Scar enough.
